Opportunity for sculptors to showcase their work in Marble Falls, Texas. Marble Falls is the gateway to the Highland Lakes in Central Texas. It is the regional retail center to over 250,000 people, living within a 30 mile radius. The natural beauty of the Hill Country and lakes combine to make the area ideal for tourism, second homes, businesses, specialty shops and high end restaurants. Marble Falls is centrally located and just a short drive from Austin, San Antonio, or Fort Worth-Dallas. The area has many resorts and exclusive subdivisions where receptive art patrons live and vacation.
Interactive sculpture and large scale sculpture With a “wow” factor to them are encouraged. The first exhibit was very successful with thirty seven sculptures and received major media attention. Plans for the second juried exhibit should make it even better. Marble Falls has wide medians and landscaped corners to make an ideal setting for showing the work. For extra security, there are granite slabs to attach the sculpture to. Insurance is also provided.
A Reception will kick off the event on October 25, 2008. Wine and food tasting from top restaurants in the area, entertainment both Friday and Saturday nights at the Uptown Theater and music under a large tent attracted over 250 people the first year. There will be an artists’ party and a tour of the Pogue Gallery & Foundry on Friday October 24th for interested sculptors.
Large scale outdoor sculpture is placed in the Historic Main Street area of Marble Falls. The sculptures from several countries will be on loan and displayed for a year in landscaped areas along Main Street. The sculpture will be for sale and draw visitors to the Main Street area all year long. Shows like this are very successful and develop as a cultural destination for viewing art.

Sculpture on Main 2008 Art Program
Sculpture on Main has a community vision of an outdoor, visual arts exhibition of sculpture placed in highly visible and accessible places in Marble Falls. They are for sale and on loan for one year. The purpose of Sculpture on Main is to make Marble Falls a centrally located art destination in Texas. Marble Falls residents, visitors and students are provided with interesting arts imagery to entertain, contemplate and from which to learn.
The exhibit is open to professional sculptors of all backgrounds. We invite you to submit your work for our year long public exhibit. Each artist may enter up to three sculptures for the entry fee of $35. The fee is to cover expenses of providing stone name plates for each piece. Judging is based on the originality of the piece, its safety, durability and suitability for an outdoor public exhibit.
Participating artists will meet with a SOM representative in Marble Falls between October 13-23, 2008, by appointment to install their sculpture. Art supporters and community members are invited to join the artists for a reception from 6PM to 7:30 PM Saturday evening. There will be a separate artists’ party on Friday 10/24/08 from 6-8PM. A tour of Pogue Sculpture Gallery & Foundry, Inc from will be Friday, 2-4PM. There will be performances at the Uptown Theater both Friday and Saturday nights at 8PM.
A full color walking tour guide with photos of the sculpture, artist names, and cost of sculpture will be available. It will be produced and free to the public and available through local businesses, museums, galleries and the local Chamber of Commerce. Promotion and sales of the sculptures will be of great importance to SOM.
Each year the Sculpture on Main Committee will vote to determine the winner of the Purchase Award, which is purchased for the City’s permanent collection, the People’s Award Best of Show $1000, the Award of Excellence $300, Legacy Award $200 and the Dan Pogue Gold Medal Award. Sculpture on Main’s purchase is subject to budgetary approval.
SOM invites individuals and merchants to adopt a sculpture. They would be responsible for light cleaning.

If they must take the piece, the artist will be offered an opportunity to install the same or a new piece subject to committee approval. The artist must agree to a 25% sales commission going to SOM to be used for promotion and buying a permanent work for the city.
They must be ready to be attached to granite, natural boulders, or concrete pads with a steel plate. Installation is the artist’s responsibility but SOM will provide help and equipment for heavy work.
